I do not usually make statements like the one that follows but enough is enough..

Our local council is about to deter tourists from coming here and the ferry companies are marking up ferry fares to a silly level.

Parking charges for 2010 are about to increase, enough to spoil the enjoyment of coming here, more or less it would have cost you a pound twenty or thirty an hour to park. Be warned not any more, a little army of so called parking officers who work Sundays, Bank Holidays, evenings and so on will pounce on ANY infringement. Park on the white line of the box your supposed to be in and you will get a ticket. Park too far away from the kerb you will get a ticket. Be a minute over time and you will get a ticket. Display your ticket where it shouldn't quite be and youve guessed it, another ticket. Desperate councils, or should I say cash strapped councils are after your money big time.. I have also noticed that double yellow lines have appeared everywhere, even in places you could park a coach and still not impede the traffic, a nasty little trick to force you into council parking areas.

Ferry Companies

Always not liked by Island residents, If you go online and book two trips, one over and one back as I did, you will find that on August 7th 2010 (over) and returning on the 21st (back) there is not a lot of difference between the two, Redfunnel, and Wightlink, trips were timed about midday with one standard sized car with two adults and two children, dont be early or late for your booked time, be warned height and length restrictions apply, heaven knows what a caravan costs, read very carefully the terms.. However, one was £165.70 and the other £152.00, R/F was the cheapest. As they advertise the very same trip online for as litte as £30 odd pounds are we getting screwed or not, you decide..

It is such a shame that the grab grab money go round we all live in has finally come to the Isle of Wight..

Perhaps it is time to go abroad for your hols. Turkey sounds nice and cheap..
